To Give His Life

Ever stopped to think why it feels so good to serve others? To do good for our communities and be a positive influence in society? Why is there a natural sense of wanting to help and feel the satisfaction of knowing we have contributed for someone else’s gain.

A mother came to Jesus one day and asked if her two sons could sit on His right and left in Heaven. Now that’s a proud mama!                                  Too proud.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. —Matthew 6:21

Jesus told her she didn’t know what she was asking and He also told her that those positions weren’t His to grant. He continued and used this as a teaching moment. Listen to Matthew 20:26-28.

“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

We have the desire to serve, because the God who formed us and gave us life came not to be served, but to serve. To give up His life. When we give, serve, and contribute, we are joining God in His activity. We are actively showing and expressing love, which is of His nature. Service connects us to His identity.

EVERLASTING GOD, You could have revealed Yourself to us in so many ways, but You chose a Servant. May I serve to identify with You and join You in where You are working.
